New definition of lying

so if i tell my husband an untruth, i.e.

Certain lies are acceptable per Watchtower. Where can I find that?

watchtower has defined certain circumstances where it's permissible to withhold certain facts, even telling an untruth.

like some outsider, or enemy, may not be deserving to know certain factual answers.. where can i find such quotations?.

See the new definition of lying on page 5 of the 2016 WT no 1:

"Saying something false to someone who is entitled to know the truth."

So the converse is also true. It is not a lie if you say something false to someone who is not entitled to know the truth.

The Watchtower no 1 for 2016, entitled 'Why be honest', has this definition of lying on page 5:

"Saying something false to someone who is entitled to know the truth."

So if I tell my husband an untruth, i.e. I didn't buy that dress whereas I did buy it, it would be a lie as he is entitled to know where it came from especially if it was his money. But I could tell someone else I didn't buy that dress whereas I did buy it, and it would NOT be a lie as they were not entitled to know where it came from. Same dress, same words but one is a lie and the other isn't a lie depending on whom I tell it to.

So that is how the organization justifies certain things they do. We publishers are told that no known pedophile may have responsibilities in the congregation and that isn't a lie since we are not entitled to know the truth, being only publishers. And the Royal Commission is not entitled to know the inner workings of the organization, so any untruths told to them were not untruths at all as per the above definition.

Ex JW's - Which Christian denomination are you with now and why?

this is a question for ex jw's who have joined another christian faith group.

the purpose of my question iis to find out which christian faith group you chose after leaving watchtower and what convinced you to travel this new spiritual path you are on.

i am interested to know because i personally would like to find a genuine faith group where i can feel true christian liberty as i initially thought i had with the witnesses.

Good question, one I had a few months ago. John 6:68 tells us where to go. Read the verse carefully, the question is not Where must we go, but to Whom.

Our family is currently examining the scriptures closely to make sure of what it true. There are some useful sites, but you need to take some of their teachings with a pinch of salt. See www.meletivivlon.com, www.21stcr.org. www.scatteredbrethren.org and www.biblicaltruthseekers.co.uk/articles/.

Just because the organization has been found to be liars, does not make Jehovah God non-existent nor his word invalid. We have found a very like minded family (not JW background) in our area through the Scattered Brethern Network, and are meeting for bible study once or twice a month with them. No formal organization is needed or desirable but it is good to have a small group for your own encouragement - Matthew 18:20

A question about fading....

i understand that many on this forum are undertaking a slow fade, over months, years even.. can i ask what is the benefit of that instead of a fast fade?.

as i understand it, the elders only have to deal judicially with people who are still active witnesses, known in the community as witnesses, having contact and influence with witnesses etc.

so surely the sooner you stop attending meetings the better.

I have recently found TTAT.

This is my opinion and please correct me if you think I am wrong:

The FDS seems to be the wicked slave at Mat 24:48. This scripture goes on to say: . . .the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect and in an hour that he does not know, and he will punish him with the greatest severity and will assign him his place with the hypocrites.. . .

I have been wondering why they would be assigned with the hypocrites. It then struck me that the covering over of child abuse, the lying and covering up by the organization, the allowing of elders to remain in their position if they had committed serious wrongdoing as long as the R&F doesn't know of the sin... all these are hypocrisy. They are hiding who and what they are and are portraying a veneer of holiness.

We need to be careful that we too do not become hypocrites by pretending to be what we are not. We must worship Jehovah with spirit and truth (John 4:23, 24) and that includes being truthful about who we are. Because of this desire for honesty it may be better to quick fade and take the consequences.
